3.4 System and Partition Characteristics

LANSA allows you to set standard characteristics at

  • System level
  • Partition level.

System level characteristics are held in a series of Data Areas and are the same for all partitions within a LANSA system. They include:

  • Field defaults
  • File defaults
  • Date format and century switch processing
  • IBM i operating system attributes
  • Security handling.

Partition level characteristics are specific to one partition only and include:

  • Function keys
  • Multilingual support
  • CUA standards
  • Documentor.

Initially, these default values are set by the LANSA system. In most cases, they can be changed. For maximum efficiency, you should ensure that the default values are set to the most common usage for your site.
