Web Single tier model Considerations

Installing LANSA on IBM i

Web Single-tier model Considerations
  • In a single-tier model, you are using a single IBM i for your Web Server and Data/Application Server. All of the LANSA software is installed on a single Server. Only a single IP address is required to identify the Server as the Web Server and the Data/Application Server are on the same machine.
  • This model is the simplest to install and configure. You may wish to begin with this model and move to a multi-tier application model where the Web Server is located on another Server. (Refer to the Task: Upgrading from a Single-tier to a Multi-tier IBM i Web Model). The single-tier model is useful for testing your LANSA applications before deploying the applications on the Internet.
  • You will not have to configure the Web Server to Data/Application Server communications since you are using just one machine.
  • This model may be sufficient if you are intending to deploy your applications in an Intranet. An Intranet limits the number of people who can access your IBM i so your security considerations do not need to be as strict as for an Internet application.
  • If you are deploying your application on the Internet, a single-tier model has security risks because your IBM i will be on the Internet. You should consider using a firewall and other security precautions to protect your IBM i.
  • It is strongly recommended that you use the Typical install for a new single-tier installation.
